Like many families in and around Toowoomba, we are proud to call it home but one of the most commonly discussed down sides to our great area, is the lack of "things to do" that don't involve eating or driving (or both) in large quantities first and then off to the pub at night.
Over the last year or so, I (Nathan) and my wife (Tina) have been busing working full time and raising our 3 children but often talked about the opportunities that might exist for some entertainment based activities that could fill the gap.
We decided to create our own business tailored to Toowoomba's unique "big country town" culture, where we like to have fun but also play it safe.
For us, this meant looking at how we can keep all the thrill of this fast-growing sport but also add a layer of control that keeps everyone out of harm's way as much as possible. With our family and a few friends, we have put together what we think is a stylish and unique venue in an iconic location just a few minutes from the CBD.
The Iconic Dairy factory has been a part of the Toowoomba scene for over 100 years with parts of the site established as early as 1905 and continuing to expand though to the 1940's.
By the 1950's this factory was producing
25% of Queensland's dairy output.
We are proud to have an opportunity to have a chop at operating our new business in what was one of the product processing rooms. Our Axe throwing room is located inside the southern end of the main building directly behind the prominent "Unity Pasteurised Milk" displayed in raised lettering on the facade
The Axe N Dagger entry is via the central stairs that lead through one of the original pasteurisation rooms past the magnificent wrought iron spiral stair case that once gave access to the Edam drying rooms in the top of the centre building. Come and check it out for yourself!
When you come in to have a chop at our targets, take a minute to consider how we got everything up to the second floor of the old factory (fun fact, it all came up the stairs by hand). Yes, everything from the framing and mesh to the timber and the giant axe all carried up by hand and assembled on site.
